Common questions

Questions leaders ask

What is one-to-one leadership coaching?

You work privately with a coach on how you lead. It is not life coaching, and it is not training to become a coach yourself. The focus is your effectiveness in the role you hold now, and the change is confirmed by the people you work with rather than by your own assessment.

How will I choose my coach?

GCG puts forward a shortlist of certified coaches selected for your situation: your leadership level, your industry and context, and your location and language. You meet the coaches on that shortlist and decide who to work with. The choice is yours.

What will we focus on?

You and your coach choose one or two leadership growth areas at the start, informed by what your coworkers say and by your role and organizational context. Keeping the focus narrow is deliberate: it is what makes the change noticeable to the people around you. Where a 360 assessment helps choose those areas, GCG most often uses its GLA360.

How are coworkers involved?

Coworkers are your direct reports, peers and manager, and you choose who takes part. They suggest what you could do next on your growth areas — feedforward, not a verdict on the past. They see the action plan you commit to and, at agreed intervals, report what they observe. Requests arrive by email and take a few minutes.

Are my coaching conversations confidential?

Your conversations with your coach are treated as confidential. What your coworkers see is separate: they are asked for suggestions, they see the actions you commit to, and they report the progress they observe. For GCG’s confidentiality and data-handling terms, and who sees Pulse Survey results in your engagement, please contact us before you start.

How is progress measured?

Through Pulse Surveys, sent periodically to the coworkers you involved and typically about every three months. They report the leadership growth they observe in your chosen areas, and its effect on team effectiveness and performance results. You and your coach review each round and use it to decide what to focus on next. This records what your coworkers observe; it is not an audit of financial results.

How long does an engagement last?

An engagement runs over a set number of months, agreed at the start, rather than a short course of a few weeks. It needs to be long enough for you to practise the change in everyday work and for your coworkers to notice it. Contact us and we will confirm the engagement formats currently available.

What does individual coaching cost?

Pricing for individual coaching is provided on request. It depends on the length of the engagement and what you want it to cover. Contact us and we will talk it through with you before you commit to anything.

How do I get started?

Contact us and tell us what you want to change as a leader, the role you are in and the context you work in. GCG uses that to put a shortlist of certified coaches in front of you, and you choose the one you want to work with.
